"Everybody wants to park their car in the shade / Sit in shade but nobody wants to plant a tree"

If we look around for a moment we can realize how slowly we are loosing the greens around us. It might not be a big deal for those who consider it as a part of development. But the impact it has on every human is undeniable. Why do we feel a calmness when we walk under the shade? Why do we prefer parking our vehicle under shade? Why do we feel happy when we feel the fresh breeze?? yet we let the green destruction happen in the name of (concrete jungle) development.
True development is including nature in to our life and making it a part of our everyday life.

Though few nature lovers try to keep the connection alive by planting new trees the destruction is more and fast. We need lot more effort to plant new trees and save the already planted ones. When we started this gardening journey, we collected all the seeds that were available near our home (neem, Indian almond and Rain tree) and propagated it and transferred it to native home which is located in South India.  While beginning this enthusiastic journey we did not know one important factor i.e. does this tree belong/suitable to that particular region??

Choose Trees that are native to the place it is planted:

This is the fore most important factor that should be considered before planting a tree. Unsuitable trees that are planted can do more harm than good to the earth. There are few ways to find out about the trees. Speak to native/local people who have been living in that place for a long time, Look around, observe and see what trees have been planted more in those places. consider factors like if that particular tree species will take lot of ground water, will the roots break the concrete building, does it have enough space to grow to its full potential?

Tamil Nadu Treepedia  is an android app developed by TamilNadu Forest Department under the Tamil Nadu Innovative Initiative Scheme (TANII). This app helps us to identify the right tree species suitable for a particular location.

Seed ball is one easy way to start growing trees. But all the seed balls thrown does not sprout. Seed ball thrown on a empty ground will not sprout. Seed ball should be thrown in an ground which is fertile or at least has a little grass cover which will help the seeds to sprout and sustain.

Inspite of mass cutting down of trees we still see new sapling planted and trying to thrive in the chaos around it.  Let's help our mother nature and in turn help our future generation.

We are here to know more about the trees of India. We will collect as much as information on the tree that are found in India and update it here.
