Ladies Finger/ Okra/ வென்டைக்காய்

One of the easiest and fastest growing veggie is ladies finger. Ladies finger belongs to Malvaceae family. The nutritional value of 100g of edible ladies finger is characterized by 1.9g protein, 0.2g fat, 6.4g carbohydrate, 0.7g minerals and 1.2g fibers. 

Seed                  : Before sowing, soak the seed for 2 to 4 hours. 

                             Soak the seed until the skin gets   fully soaked. 
Soil                   : Okra prefers loose, well-drained and rich soil.
Sowing             : Sow the seed directly

Germination   :  Germinates in within 4 -5 days

Pot                     : 12*12 Bag / container with 1 inch width and 1 inch height 

Ground            : While planting on the ground, sowing should be done in 45cm spacing. 

Flowering        : Flowering begins from 35 to 40 days after sowing. 

Fruiting            : Within 5 to 6 days of flowering fruiting will start

Harvest:  

• Harvest can be done in 55 to 65 days. 
• Within 5 days of flowering the pods will grow to 2 to 3 inches long. 
• Right time to harvest is when pods will be tender, once become large it become tough and hard not suitable to eat. 
• Just like how we check and buy, while the vegetable is tender press and check. If it is still tender its the right time to harvest. 

Seed Saving:  

• Once the plant reaches its highest harvest time, (approximately 90 days) choose the healthiest ladies finger and leave it to dry on the plant. 
• It should not be cut before it dries on the plant. 
• Once dry collect the seed and preserve it in a zip-lock cover, bottle or plastic box or in a closed bag.

      விதைப்பு      : விதை நேரடியாக விதைக்க வேண்டும்

      முளைப்பு     : 4 -5 நாட்களுக்குள் முளைக்கும்

      தொட்டி : 1 அங்குல அகலமும் 1 அங்குல உயரமும் கொண்ட 12 * 12 பை / கொள்கலன்

      தரை             : தரையில் நடும் போது, ​​45 செ.மீ இடைவெளியில் விதைப்பு செய்ய வேண்டும்.

      பூ                       : விதைத்த 35 முதல் 40 நாட்கள் வரை பூக்கும். (படம் 1)

•         காய்ந்து வருவதற்கு முன்பு வெட்டக்கூடாது.
•          உலர்ந்ததும் விதை சேகரித்து ஜிப்-லாக் கவர், பாட்டில் அல்லது பிளாஸ்டிக் பெட்டியில் அல்லது மூடிய பையில் பாதுகாக்கவும்.
